19 EASY SELF CARE IDEAS FOR DAYS WHEN DEPRESSION REARS ITS UGLY HEAD

In my last post, I wrote about why it’s okay to take a day out of life when you need it. When you’re struggling with your mental health sometimes you need time out to rest and recharge. Below are some of the super simple self care ideas I do on days when getting out of bed feels like a giant effort.

  1. Be kind to yourself – allow yourself to put everything to one side and take a day just for you, guilt-free
  2. Sleep – depression can wreak havoc on your sleep patterns so catch up on some much needed ZZZs
  3. Shower – just a five minute shower can make you feel a hundred times better
  4. Get dressed – even if it’s just into another clean set of pyjamas

  6. Listen to music – have a ‘Happy’ playlist ready to go for days when you feel like crap
  7. Open the curtains – if you’re struggling to leave your bed, simply opening the curtains and letting some natural light in can do wonders for your mood
  8. Do ten minutes of meditation – I love using Headspace for this
  9. Cook a nice breakfast
  10. Eat chocolate – and don’t feel bad about it!
  11. Read a book
  12. Listen to a podcast
  13. Go for a short walk
  14. Or if you can’t make it outside, do ten minutes of yoga at homeYogaglo is great for this
  15. Or if that’s too much, do a little bit of stretching
  16. Plan a trip
  17. Try some new recipes
  18. Drink plenty of fluids
  19. Talk to a friend
